Behind the Scenes with Shiftgig’s Product, Engineering, and Data (PED) Teams

A key to Shiftgig’s mission to connect millions of people with millions of shifts are the Product, Engineering, and Data teams (PED). Collectively, PED focuses on finding solutions to the most important business problems facing our Specialists and clients.

For Specialists, these issues revolve around finding work opportunities that fit schedules, pay requirements, skills/interests, and travel limitations. We’ve heard repeatedly from clients in every industry we serve that their biggest challenges are finding workers that are reliable, properly skilled for a job, and have positive attitudes. There are opportunities to leverage tech for clients as well, such as improving the way hours are tracked and approved or helping with event logistics by showing a team member’s location on a map.

As Shiftgig grows, PED teams are constantly working to preserve the adaptability and speed that’s been a hallmark of our success as well as many other successful software startups. As a client, this means that we can quickly deliver products and features that help us serve you better, and in some cases help you run your business more efficiently and economically. Our commitment falls into three main areas:

  1. Lean startup best practices. We identify possible solutions to problems and then test, learn, and improve them over time.
  1. Agile approach. Our software development process provides regular opportunities to re-evaluate priorities and shift focus to ensure we’re always working on the most important issues or enhancements.
  1. Data-focused. We measure everything from schedule changes to shift outcomes to timecard discrepancies, and leverage that information to make smarter product decisions and build a platform that automatically learns and improves over time.

From time to time, someone from the PED team may contribute to this blog to give an inside view into what we’re working on or how we’re thinking about a problem. We hope you’ll join us!
