Market Spotlight: Nashville

It’s hard to deny that Nashville is still an “it” city. With the city’s hockey team, the Nashville Predators, currently in the Stanley Cup playoffs, Music City has been getting a national spotlight. Sports teams aside, the city is also undergoing a sort of renaissance. The population is on the rise, with dozens of young professionals flocking to the city each day. New construction is at a near constant tick, with apartments and offices being built and developed regularly. It’s easy to see how Nashville is the place to be right now for workers, developers, and employers.

Wondering just how big Nashville is getting? Here are a few surprising facts about the current state of the Nashville population and economy:

  • Nashville is now the largest city in Tennessee, surpassing Memphis in 2016 with a population of 660,000, to Memphis’ 652,000. (Source: WKRN news)
  • U.S. Census Bureau data shows that the Nashville metro area increased by an average of 100 people a day during the 12 month period of July 2015 to July 2016. (Source: The Tennessean)
  • According to Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, more than $4 billion in building permits are active, and 25 cranes currently dot the Nashville skyline. (Source: Forbes)
  • Forbes also noted that in 2016, Nashville ranked second in the country for job growth.

Last year, Shiftgig took note of the exponential growth in the area, and opened a Nashville and Memphis office to hire Shiftgig Specialists and acquire new area clients. Today, less than a year later, the Nashville office is a success having onboarded more than 800 Specialists, and managing clients across a number of verticals like housekeeping, food service, and hospitality.

Jordan Lejcar, General Manager of the Nashville and Memphis offices, has watched in awe as the economic growth of Music City has boomed over the past year. He touts the benefits of living and working in the Nashville area, and says it’s a great place to access gig economy workers as well.

Here are just a few of the roles Jordan and his team are helping to fill each week at the Nashville office:

  • Retail workers and bartenders for the Stanley Cup finals
  • Staff to work the upcoming CMA festival
  • Warehouse work like picker/packers and inventory control
  • Servers at local universities and medical facilities

As you can see, Shiftgig can help fill your workforce needs large or small, day or night in Music City.
