On-demand marketplace to hire a thousand local workers
Chicago, IL — August 21, 2017 — Shiftgig, the mobile marketplace that connects people with flexible work opportunities through their mobile phones, announced today it is now operating in Philadelphia to provide on-demand shift opportunities for local workers.
The new market location plans to hire as many as one thousand people within its first six months for on-demand job opportunities such as food service, hospitality, retail, warehouse, and event shifts at companies and venues throughout the Philadelphia area — including the largest baseball park in the city, a national department store retailer, the second largest pharmacy store chain, and much more.
“Philadelphia is home to thousands of hardworking people who are looking for a new way to supplement their income or find work opportunities that fit their busy schedule,” said Eddie Lou, co-founder and CEO at Shiftgig. “Our goal for coming to the Philadelphia market is to connect those people to the many businesses who are looking to leverage their workforce with the gig economy.”
Shiftgig works like this: A business will place orders for on-demand labor through Shiftgig. Pre-vetted Shiftgig workers, referred to as Specialists, interested in picking up work can then scroll through the available options on the Shiftgig mobile app and select shifts that fit their schedule and interests. Through the Shiftgig app, Specialists are provided with directions, dress requirements, and any further instructions needed to fulfill their shift assignments. Businesses working with Shiftgig have the opportunity to gain clear insight into their workforce, All-Star workers they prefer, and block those who they don’t want to access their shifts in the future.
“With Philadelphia’s unemployment rate under 4%, businesses are seeking new ways to augment its workforce,” says Michael Goldberg, General Manager of the Philadelphia office. “Shiftgig allows food service, hotel, retail, warehouse, and event businesses in Philadelphia to connect seamlessly to a qualified and vetted on-demand gig economy workforce.”
Shiftgig’s new Philadelphia office is located at 1601 Market St., Suite 20A127, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Businesses interested in working with Shiftgig can visit www.shiftgig.com/business for more information. Workers interested in joining our team of Specialists should go to www.shiftgig.com/apply and fill out the form to apply.
To celebrate the Philadelphia office opening, Shiftgig is hosting an open house on August 25, where local workers can learn more about Shiftgig and have the chance to meet Jalen Mills, cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Register for the open house here http://hubs.ly/H08n2VS0.
