ShiftGiving: Impacting the community, one volunteer opportunity at a time

Empowering Shiftgig employees to make a difference in the local Chicago community is the mission of our ShiftGiving corporate responsibility program.

The program offers full-time employees two paid days a year to volunteer with a charity of their choice. Additionally, as a company we organize monthly opportunities for employees to participate in.

Take a look at the local organizations Shiftgig has volunteered for recently and find out how you can get involved:

Eisenhower Cooperative

The Eisenhower Cooperative provides special education services to children as well as consultative and professional development services to the staff of ten school districts in the Chicago area.

This past holiday season, 58 students at Eisenhower Cooperative wrote a letter detailing the gifts they hoped to receive. Shiftgig employees then sponsored a child to purchase the items from their list. Here’s a look at the gifts right before they were delivered:

Ariel Community Academy

A public school located on the south side of Chicago, Ariel Community Academy serves over 500 students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. One classroom at the academy only had one computer for all of its students to use. Shiftgig was able to donate 19 chromebooks to the classroom in hopes of creating a better learning experience.

The teacher said of the donation, “I was able to do two reading groups while other kids used the computers. This will completely change my classroom for the better.”

Cradles to Crayons

The Cradles to Crayons organization is driven by a focus and goal of making life better for children in need. Its mission is to provide homeless or low-income children with the essential items needed to thrive.

A group of Shiftgig employees volunteered at their Giving Factory by sorting clothing donations and creating packages of essentials. Check out the group of employees who volunteered:

Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s

The Ronald McDonald House offers families of hospitalized children a place to call home for little to no cost. Their houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child.

Shiftgig employees had the opportunity to cook and serve lunch to the families of the Ronald McDonald Lurie Children’s house. The employees enjoyed interacting with the families and getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the home. Below is a photo of the Shiftgig volunteers in action:

The Canopy Project

Earth Day Network’s Canopy Project strives to strengthen communities worldwide through tree planting. The project empowers organizations and citizens to conserve, repair and restore tree coverage to their lands. Donations collected from Shiftgig employees on Earth Day means 75 new trees will be planted.
