Three Key Takeaways from GigE 2019

We spent last week in sunny San Diego for this year’s Collaboration in the Gig Economy conference (affectionately known as GigE) hosted by Staffing Industry Analysts. This is one of our favorite events of the year and GigE 2019 did not disappoint! I love getting a chance to catch up with clients and industry experts and always leave feeling reenergized about our mission to transform the way people work.

  1. Building a Community – Gig workers want to be a part of something, so keeping them engaged and connected is top of mind for many agencies right now. Did you know that many of your younger associates (Especially those Gen-Zers!) have done volunteer work before getting their first job? The new workforce is passionate about their community–use that as an opportunity to engage them. Our friends at The Job Center are doing some great things on this front!
  2. Convergence – The staffing ecosystem is unique because there are so many different types of agencies and software providers all working towards the same goal. Something I love about the staffing industry is how well we all work together! We are seeing a convergence of staffing firms connecting with technology companies to find the right fit. The boom of the technology in the staffing industry can be overwhelming but your peers and fellow agencies can be a great place to start your research. (Hint: ASA also puts together a great resource for this too!)
  3. Meeting Demands for On-Demand – Does your agency want to be on the wave, in the wave, or get run over by the wave when it comes to building a flexible workforce? We know you’re doing a lot of amazing things at your agency, but demands from both workers and clients are getting harder to meet! We know that rolling out a flexible workforce doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and practice to implement this new way of working into your business. In keeping with the flexibility theme, it’s like yoga. You can’t just put your foot behind your head (nor should you need to). Start by trying to touch your toes and reach a little further each day. You’ll start to notice how much better everything else works when you build in some flexibility.

While we anxiously await GigE next year, now we’re turning our focus to the American Staffing Association’s Staffing World in Las Vegas! We’ll be exhibiting in Booth #606 so if you’ll be there, stop by and say hi! We can’t wait to see everyone!
